1982 Quarter

  1. Jun 16, 2015 Such is the case with the lone PCGS MS-68 1982 Washington quarter dollar. The coin brought $4,241.75 at Heritage’s April 22 Central States Numismatic Society auction in Schaumburg, Ill.
  2. Coin Dealer Insight: Between the Philadelphia and Denver Mints, just over 900 million 1982 Washington quarters were produced. With such high production, only 1982 Washington quarters with MS-63 or higher hold any significant value.
  3. The 1982-S Proof Washington Quarter is a common date in the proof Washington quarter series. Examples up to PR69 Deep Cameo are easy to find. Only in perfect PR70 Deep Cameo are they somewhat scarce. PCGS is not responsible for the accuracy or authenticity of Ebay listings.
  4. 1982-P Washington quarter - An absence of government-issued uncirculated sets in 1982 has now led to a relatively tiny supply of uncirculated Philadelphia (and Denver) mint quarters from that year. MS 65 1982-P quarters sell for $25 or more. Lightly circulated 1982-P Washington quarters are worth $2 to $5.

What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.):
Depicted above is the 95% copper composite 1982 Small Date Lincoln Memorial Cent (Penny).
The Mint produced two major varieties of the 1982 Lincoln Memorial Cent (Penny). One had a large date and the other had a small date. In addition: the metal composition changed from a more expensive 95% copper penny to a cheaper 97.5% zinc composite penny that is now presently being produced. The only difference is the weight of the coin and the size of the dates. Depicted below is an example image comparison of the small date vs large date 1982 penny. Note that the '82' is level with the preceding '1' and the arrow depicts more space within the 2 with the smaller date. The small date numbers were also 'slimmer' as opposed to the 'fatter' numbers of the large date. Click the image to enlarge:
Pre-1982 copper pennies are popular among bullion investors because their composition is 95% copper and their value is worth more than twice the 1 cent face value:
