The Royal Mint have made two announcements about the Sir Isaac Newton 2017 50p coin.
The first was at the end of 2016 when the Royal Mint said the following about the releasing a 50p coin in his memory…

He changed our understanding of mathematics and physics, redefined the way we see the world and shaped the security of our currency in his role as Master of the Mint. In 2017, we celebrate his genius on a UK 50p.
Sir Isaac Newton Sir Isaac Newton was born on 25 December 1642 and died on 20 March 1727 having been the master of the Royal Mint since 1700.
Sir Isaac Newton 50p Error
At the time of this announcement the Royal Mint said that the date for release of the 2017 Sir Isaac Newton 50p coin would be the anniversary date of September 2017.
However the second announcement was on Friday 5th May 2017 when the Royal Mint announce that “The Isaac Newton 50p is being struck and you’ll find it on your #CoinHunt soon!
